Samsung is seemingly pushing ahead with plans to return the Exynos chipset to its flagship Galaxy phones. It may start by incorporating the chipset in its clamshell foldable phones, which would be the first for the series, as Samsung's foldables have always used Qualcomm Snapdragon chips.
A new report today claimed that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 would use the Exynos 2500 even though previous reports indicated no change to the Snapdragon preference. Even if that happens, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will likely still use a Snapdragon chip.
There have been plenty of reports about Samsung bringing Exynos back this year, likely with its foldable lineup, but it was expected to do that with the Galaxy Z Flip FE. This new affordable flip phone would get the Exynos 2400e, the same chipset that Samsung has used in the Galaxy S24 FE.
Today's report claimed with considerable clarity that the decision has been made to equip the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with Exynos 2500. The device's mass production is set to begin next month with Samsung hoping to produce 200,000 units of the phone by June. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 in July.
This would have led to speculation about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 potentially featuring the Exynos 2500 chipset as well. Reports from South Korea suggest that this isn't the case, so it can be assumed that this device will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, the same chipset that's been used across the entire Galaxy S25 lineup.
It makes business sense for Samsung to have the Exynos and Snapdragon split between the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7. The Flip always sells a lot more units than the Fold so Samsung stands to save a lot more money by converting the best-selling foldable model to Exynos. Whether it drives those long disillusioned by Exynos to the more expensive Fold just for the Snapdragon chip remains to be seen.
