In the last few years, many operating systems, platforms, and applications have started offering people the choice of light and dark themes. Unfortunately, Google’s Android Auto, despite being a widely used service, offers only a dark theme.
In 2023, a leak revealed that Google is working on upgrading Android Auto with a light theme, and earlier this month, it was spotted in one of the versions of the apps, but inactive. Well, the brand has finally showcased Android Auto’s light theme.
Google has posted new developer documentation for Android Auto, and it showcases Android Auto in dark and light themes as well as in different sizes.
As you can see in the screenshots above and below, the light theme offers user interface elements in shades of white, which look very refreshing.
Needless to say, icons are now in the shades of black to differentiate from the background. The new theme will make the screen go hand-in-hand with certain colours of car interiors, mainly white, cream, or beige.
At the moment, there’s no information about when Google will release it to the public. However, going by these screenshots, the light theme’s development seems complete, and the brand may release it soon.
On a related note, Google is also working on upgrading Android Auto with support for browser and video apps.
