When Samsung launches a new Galaxy smartphone or tablet, it mentions how many years of software updates that device will get on its product page. And with the company now offering updates for six to seven years depending on the device’s price, it’s something that gets fans and customers excited every time a new device is unveiled.
However, that’s not the case for the Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Galaxy Tab S10 FE+. The press release for the new tablets, which Samsung officially announced on April 3 and come running Android 15 with One UI 7, doesn’t mention the software update policy. Neither do their product pages.
So, someone interested in the Galaxy Tab S10 FE series reached out to Samsung for clarity on the matter (thanks for the tip, 정성현!), and they received a rather confusing answer.
The Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ will receive updates for seven years, but there is a caveat: those seven years may or may not include both OS and security updates.
Samsung's customer care representatives rarely have an idea of what they're talking about when it comes to software updates. In many instances, their answers can be vague and confusing, which is certainly the case here.
It doesn't help that until now, Samsung has promised seven years of OS and security updates only to flagship devices. For mid-range devices, it is promising six years of OS and security updates. We had assumed the latter would apply to the Galaxy Tab S10 FE lineup.
Based on the precedent Samsung has set with other recent devices, if the Galaxy Tab S10 FE lineup is indeed eligible for seven years of updates, we can assume that it will get Android, One UI, and security updates for the entire duration.
We have reached out to Samsung for more information and will update this article when we get a response.
