Samsung has released the One UI 7.0 update to a lot of eligible Galaxy phones and tablets over the past couple of weeks. Today, the newest One UI update has reached the Galaxy Tab Active 5, a rugged tablet that Samsung launched early last year.
It is the first major Android OS update for the tablet.
The Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update is now available for the Galaxy Tab Active 5 in South Korea. The update comes bearing firmware version X306NKOU5BYEB and has a download size of around 3GB. It includes the April 2025 security patch as well.
If you have a Galaxy Tab Active 5 and live in South Korea, you should check for the update right now. If you live in any other country, you should keep checking for the update once every day, as the update could soon reach all the countries in the next few days.
To download and install the new update on your Galaxy Tab Active 5, open the Settings app on your device and navigate to Software update and then tap Download and install. After the update is downloaded, hit the Install Now button.
The tablet will become inoperable for a few minutes until the update is installed, and you will then be able to use One UI 7.0 after the device is restarted.
The One UI 7 update, which is based on Android 15, brings a massive UI redesign. The Notifications and Quick Panel are now situated in two separate pages, but they can be merged if you don't like this change. The notifications are now bigger, and multiple notifications from the same app now appear as a stack. Quick Panel is now even more customizable.
You can add more customizations to the lock screen clock widget, including fonts and font width. Samsung has added more widgets for the home screen and the lock screen. It has also restyled all the home screen widgets for all the stock apps and offered more customization options for them. The home screen now has a Large Folder option.
There are newer and more smoother animations and transitions. The battery icon in the status bar has changed. The charging animation is new and it looks much better than the older one. All the stock apps have newer app icons. Stock apps have received minor design improvements. The stock Camera app is now much easier to use with one hand. The Camera app has also received the improved Filters option.
You can auto hide the taskbar and add more lock screen app shortcuts (left and right). You can also set Google's Gemini as the default AI assistant on the tablet and quickly access it by long pressing the power button.
The Now Bar is a new UI element that shows ongoing activities, such as media playback or a live stopwatch or timer. It is visible on the lock screen and as a small, pill-shaped element on the top of the screen in the status bar.
The built-in Photo Editor has received improved editing and collage creation options. The Galaxy Tab Active 5 has also received the Best Face option to choose the best faces in an image if you have captured the photo using the tablet after getting the One UI 7 update. The built-in video editor, called Samsugn Studio, has also received new features for a better video editing experience.
Alarms, Calendar, and Reminders have received better management features. Quick Share has been improved as well. There are new battery health protection modes and options.
Routines and Modes have also received new features and conditions. Game Booster has also received a new design and new customization features. There are lots of other improvements and optimizations that One UI 7 brings to the Galaxy Tab Active 5.
