Samsung's Galaxy AI suite covers many aspects, from generative text and live translation to AI-powered photo editing. One area where it is somewhat lacking is video, but a new rumor says the One UI 7.1 update might fix that by introducing an option to erase objects in videos.
Take this with a pinch of salt. The idea that a Galaxy AI-powered video-editing tool is on its way to Samsung devices is not new. Last year, before Galaxy AI even became a thing, rumor had it that One UI 6.1 would bring an AI option that could let users erase selected objects from videos. That obviously didn't come to pass.
Even before Samsung rolled out One UI 6.1.1, the rumor was that the update could focus on video AI innovation. That also didn't happen, and the only AI-related video feature we got in One UI 6.1.1 was a slightly improved Instant Slow-Mo.
Lastly, One UI 7.0 will be the next big update, and there's still a lot of debate about what new AI tools it may or may not bring. This makes One UI 7.1 even more unpredictable.
If there's any truth to this new rumor (via @Sawyergalox), we might finally get some powerful AI-enabled video editing tools next year. But for now, given the history of these types of rumors, it's probably better to stay skeptical and wait for more facts to emerge before getting too hyped.
This is a sought-after AI feature, and chances are that Samsung will release something like it at some point. It would be a very powerful video editing tool to add add to the toolset. Besides, it's not an entirely new concept, as it already exists in some software solutions out there. Whether it will happen for Samsung users with One UI 7.1 is a different matter. We'll keep you posted.
