Microsoft laid out a Windows 11 plan this past summer, with improved memory optimization among its highest goals. The company didn't reveal much about these purported improvements then, but the Windows 11 update is now rolling out, and Microsoft's Pavan Davuluri shared a couple of extra details in a recent blog post.
According to the latest information, Microsoft's lab tests show that 8GB PCs running the latest version of Windows 11 are now 20% more responsive and multitask 40% faster.
Microsoft also explains that its Windows operating system has used compression for years. However, the latest update tunes certain aspects of compression and data-fetching specifically for 8GB PCs.
Not many. In fact, as of this writing, Samsung sells only one Galaxy Book model with 8GB of RAM: the revised Galaxy Book 6. The company introduced it a few months ago as a budget supplement to the Book 6 series and an Apple MacBook Neo rival.
So, although there aren't many 8GB Samsung PCs out there in 2026, at the very least, Galaxy Book 6 users should enjoy a smoother experience thanks to Microsoft's memory-optimization update.
And even though Samsung doesn't offer many 8GB laptops, the idea of getting more out of less memory sounds quite noble at a time when memory chips are in short supply.
If you're interested in a budget Samsung laptop powered by Windows 11, the Galaxy Book 6 starts at $799 before discounts and trade-in deals. It has 8GB of RAM, obviously, as well as 256GB of storage, an Intel Core 5 CPU, and a 14-inch IPS anti-glare display.
Other, more expensive Galaxy Book 6 options exist, but those already have a minimum of 16GB of RAM.
