Last month, Samsung introduced the AI Subscription Club in South Korea. This service allows people to rent the company’s AI-powered home appliances by paying a monthly fee. Earlier this month, we learned that the tech giant is planning to introduce the same business model for smartphones and tablets. Well, that’s finally happened, right in time for the launch of the Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung has introduced the New Galaxy AI Subscription Club in South Korea. It allows people in the country to subscribe to a Galaxy S25 series smartphone for 12 or 24 months by paying a monthly fee. According to the company, the subscription price is KRW 5,900 (approximately $4.09). That means a person will end up paying only $48 to use a Galaxy S25 for a year.
That's too good to be true. Therefore, we think that there's a catch or something's lost in the translation (the press release is in the Korean language). We will have to wait for a little to get clarity on the matter. Speaking of details, the service will go live in the region on 24 January 2025, two days after the launch of the new lineup.
Apart from reducing the upfront cost of owning the Galaxy S25, the New Galaxy AI Subscription Club also offers other benefits.
First, if people return the device after 12 months, they will get 50% of the price of the device listed on Samsung’s official website. The company says that If they use that to get a new Galaxy S series phone, it will be equal to getting the new phone at 50% price. Second, if people return the device after using it for 24 months, they will get 40% of the price of the device.
Third, people subscribing to the new plan will get the Samsung Care Plus Smartphone Damage+ protection plan on their phones for free. With that, if their phone gets damaged or if it develops any issue, the company will get those repaired without any charges. Fourth, they will also get discounts on accessories for their phone, such as cases and battery packs.
Commenting on the launch of the new service, the Vice President of Samsung Electronics South Korea, Lim Sung-Taek said “The ‘New Galaxy AI Subscription Club ’ is a service that allows consumers to enjoy the latest Galaxy products every year at an affordable price. Following home appliances, the ‘New Galaxy AI Subscription Club ’ will change the purchasing paradigm for mobile products, and we hope that you will be the first to experience our new products.”
At the moment, there’s no information if Samsung's planning to launch the Galaxy AI Subscription Club outside South Korea. We hope that it does. It will make it easier for people to own Galaxy smartphones and pull a lot of people towards the brand.
