Yesterday, we reported that Qualcomm would soon launch the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 SoC. However, we didn’t know that it would be as soon as within twelve hours. That’s right. The company has launched the successor to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, which it unveiled only six months ago.
As this is a mid-range processor, Qualcomm launched it without any fanfare. Let’s take a look at what improvements the new model offers over its predecessor as well as its full specifications and availability details. Spoiler alert: You might not see it in Samsung phones anytime soon (or ever).
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 offers 11% higher CPU performance, 29% faster GPU performance, and 12% better power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.
While Qualcomm says that the new chipset uses 4nm process technology, the brand hasn’t specified from which fab it is getting the SoC made. Various reports claim that it is TSMC. You can check out the complete specifications in the image below.
While there is not much interesting in the CPU department, there’s a lot to talk about on the GPU side. It comes with Snapdragon Game Super Resolution for upscaling content, Adreno HDR Fast Blend to render dynamic and complex scenes two times faster than GPUs without it, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine to double the frame rate without using too much power.
There’s also a lot on the AI front too. According to the company, the SoC supports “GenAI-powered intuitive virtual assistants” and can perform “content summarization, email drafting, and more—all on-device.” There’s also support for INT4 (a first in the Snapdragon 6-series). For audio, there’s “AI-based noise cancellation, noise reduction, and contextual detection.”

Qualcomm says that we will see the first devices with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 from Honor, Oppo, and Realme in the coming months. Considering that the brand hasn’t mentioned Samsung, we are assuming that the South Korean tech giant might not be adopting it anytime soon or maybe never. In the past too, Samsung hasn’t used Snapdragon 6 series chipset much.
