Ever since Samsung first introduced Galaxy AI, its suite of artificial intelligence features, there has been some confusion as to how long these features will remain free. The company has mentioned on occasion that the features will be offered free for a limited time.

Recent official communications have provided the “end of 2025” deadline for free provision of Galaxy AI features. Samsung has now addressed the confusion by confirming which Galaxy AI features will remain free forever.

Samsung has confirmed to Android Police that all Galaxy AI features available “on your phone by default” will be offered free forever. This essentially means that the Galaxy AI features developed by Samsung won't become pay-to-play.

There's two parts to Galaxy AI. It has features developed by Samsung independently, such as Audio Eraser, Object Eraser, Note Assist, Generative Wallpapers, Live Translate, Writing Assist, and many more. The others are Gemini-powered capabilities powered by Google.

The former are free and will remain free. The latter is not entirely up to Samsung to decide, as even though Google offers Gemini features on Samsung devices free of charge now, it may decide to charge for them down the line. Gemini Advanced already exists, it's a paid tier with more powerful AI features, and Google offers them free for a limited time on Samsung devices.

There's likely some legal rationale for providing a disclaimer about Galaxy AI being free until an arbitrary deadline. Enacting a paywall on the AI suite out of the blue could potentially lead to some legal repercussion.

Samsung could also expand the functionality by partnering with other AI companies like Perplexity, which its said to be in discussions with, and need to charge for those features. At least users can rest assured that they'll continue to have unencumbered access to Samsung's own AI features.
