With almost everything in the consumer electronics space getting costlier due to the ongoing AI-induced RAM shortage, Samsung is introducing a more affordable Galaxy Book 6 laptop variant to rival the Apple MacBook Neo.

At $799, the new Galaxy Book 6 is still $100 pricier than the MacBook Neo. However, it could attract buyers thanks to its larger screen, generous port selection, and higher storage options. It is $450 cheaper than the Galaxy Book 6 that was launched a few months ago.

The laptop features a 14-inch LCD screen with WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), a 60Hz refresh rate, 350 nits of brightness, and, importantly, an anti-glare coating to ensure legibility around bright light sources.

Compared to the MacBook Neo's minimalist layout of just two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, the Galaxy Book 6 offers two USB Type-C ports, a USB Type-A port, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This means you can charge the laptop while simultaneously connecting it to an external monitor, a hard drive, and a wired mouse without needing an extra dongle.

The Galaxy Book 6 is available with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, paired with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. In contrast, the MacBook Neo is limited to just 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Under the hood, the laptop comes equipped with an Intel Core 3 processor in the base model and an Intel Core 5 processor in higher-tier configurations. Both chips feature integrated Intel graphics and a built-in NPU that delivers up to 15 TOPS of AI performance. For comparison, the A18 Pro chip in the MacBook Neo boasts a 35 TOPS NPU.

The Galaxy Book 6 runs Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro. Beyond standard Windows functionality, it includes several Galaxy AI and Galaxy ecosystem features for seamless integration:

Rounding out the hardware, the laptop includes a tenkeyless keyboard, a multitouch trackpad, stereo speakers (2x 2W), and a 2MP webcam capable of 1080p video. Wireless connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.

It is powered by a 61.2Wh battery, which Samsung claims can last up to 25 hours on a single charge. When the battery runs low, the bundled 45W USB Type-C charger and cable can charge it from 0 to 33% in just 30 minutes.

You can buy the Galaxy Book 6 for $799 in the US starting today in two colors: Gray and Violet Silver. Its availability will expand to more countries in the near future.
