Samsung Pay users in the United States will be aware that they couldn't use the mobile payments service at Walmart. It wasn't Samsung's fault, Walmart tried for as long as possible to not accept tap-to-pay services in its stores.

That's now changing. Walmart has confirmed that it will enable tap-to-pay capabilities at “select” Walmart and Sam's Club locations starting today.

Walmart was one of the last remaining major retailers in the United States to not support tap-to-pay services like Samsung Pay, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. The company rolled out its own Walmart Pay service in 2016 which let customers check out with a QR code at its stores.

The retailer has finally come around. Starting August 24, it will bring tap-to-pay compatibility at select Walmart and Sam's Club locations. It confirmed that support will be rolled out to all locations in the United States by the end of this year and to fuel stations by mid-2027.

Customers who shop at the retailer will be pleased that this option is finally being provided to them. Tap-to-pay works virtually everywhere and it's heavily relied upon by most customers every single day. Walmart not supporting it for the longest time was never going to win it any credit from customers, so it's nice to see the retailer changing course.
