In addition to its new-generation QD-OLED TV panel and an innovative 18.1-inch foldable screen for laptops, Samsung Display announced several futuristic slidable OLED panels at CES 2025. These panels are designed for laptops, smartphones, and tablets with innovative form factors.
Samsung Display, the display manufacturing arm of Samsung Electronics, showcased three types of slidable OLED screen prototypes: Slidable Flex Duet, Slidable Flex Solo, and Slidable Flex Vertical.
The Slidable Flex Duet is an 8.1-inch OLED panel that can slide open from both sides (left and right) to turn into a 12.4-inch screen. It can be used in a mini-sized tablet (similar to the size of the Galaxy Tab A8) that can turn into a big-screen tablet (identical to the size of the Galaxy Tab S9+).
The Slideable Flex Solo is a 13-inch OLED panel that slides open from one side to become a 17.3-inch screen. It can be used in a 13-inch laptop whose display expands to offer more screen real estate, allowing you to use multiple windows or view more content (code, documents, images/videos).
The Slidable Flex Vertical is a 5.1-inch slidable OLED panel that can expand into a 6.7-inch screen. It can be used to design a phone that extends from a compact form factor into a regular-sized smartphone.
The display maker also showcased a dog-shaped robot called OLEDog. This robot is usually used at Samsung Display's plant in Vietnam to manage unmanned infrastructure. However, the company repurposed it to tap dance on and kick OLED panels at its CES 2025 show floor to demonstrate the durability of those panels.
