Samsung has announced the launch of the world's first ‘Micro RGB TV'. This TV uses a micro-scale RGB LED backlight to power its 115-inch screen, offering improved picture quality compared to Samsung's Mini-LED-based Neo QLED TVs. The Micro RGB TV provides more precise backlight control, resulting in a better overall viewing experience.
The Micro RGB TV has been launched in South Korea for a price of KRW 44.9 million (approximately $32,325). Samsung plans to launch the TV in the USA soon, followed by other markets in a sequential manner. To meet consumer demand, the TV will be available in a wider range of sizes in the future.
Samsung's new TV uses a proprietary Micro RGB technology, which features micro-sized LEDs (less than 100µm) placed beneath an LCD layer to ensure extremely high precision for backlight control. The display panel is controlled by Samsung's Micro RGB AI Engine that uses AI to real-time color optimization based on the video content. The screen has a Glare Free coating, similar to Samsung's new Neo QLED and some OLED TVs, to reduce glare and reflections.
The TV also features Samsung's AI Upscaling Pro to upgrade low-quality content to near 4K quality, and it is powered by Samsung's Micro RGB AI chip, which has 2x more powerful NPU, 15% faster CPU, and 2.1x faster GPU. The chip uses AI Motion Enhancer Pro to reduce image distortion and Micro RGB Color Booster Pro to reproduce rich colors based on scene-by-scene recognition. It uses Micro RGB HDR+ engine for HDR processing. The TV features HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10+ Gaming certifications.
The Micro RGB TV features a 70W RMS 4.2.2-channel speaker setup with support for Dolby Atmos. Other audio features that are available on the TV include 360 Audio (for Galaxy Buds), Active Voice Amplifier Pro, Adaptive Sound Pro, Object Tracking Sound+, and Q-Symphony (with Wireless Dolby Atmos). It has far-field microphones and a built-in light sensor.
It runs Tizen OS and will get seven major OS updates. It features Art Mode, Art Store, Bixby, Daily Board, Google Assistant, Samsung Daily+, Samsung Health, Samsung TV Plus, SmartThings Hub (with Matter controller), Karaoke Mode, and MuiltiView. Its AI features include Click To Search, Generative Wallpaper, and Live Translate.
Gaming-enhancement features include up to a 144Hz variable refresh rate, AI Auto Game Mode, ALLM, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Dynamic Black Equalizer, Mini Map Zoom, Samsung Gaming Hub, and Super Ultra Wide Game View. If you have Philips Hue lights, the TV can change the colors of those lights dynamically based on the content on the screen for a more immersive gaming environment.
Its connectivity features include Wi-Fi 5, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.3, four HDMI 2.0 ports (one with eARC), two USB Type-A ports, an ethernet port, an an optical audio out port.
Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Micro RGB achieves unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays. With this launch, we’re setting the standard in the large-sized, ultra-premium TV market and reinforcing our commitment to next-generation display innovation.“
Unlike Samsung's Micro LED TV, which features micro-sized self-emissive pixels that can produce their own colors and light, the Micro RGB TV uses an LCD panel to produce colors and micro-sized LEDs to produce the backlight. You can think of it as an improvement over Mini LED TVs, featuring a more precise backlight control.

Samsung's Micro RGB TV sits one step above Samsung's Neo QLED TVs but below its Micro LED TV in terms of pricing and performance. A similar-sized (115-inch) Micro LED TV is priced at $150,000 in the USA, which makes it 5x pricier than the Micro RGB TV that launched today. Moreover, a Micro LED TV needs to be installed professionally, while a Micro RGB TV is ready-to-use like regular TVs.
