One of the major selling points of cloud gaming is the ability to play on almost any device. All you need is a compatible app or web browser and a fast, stable internet connection. However, the reality is slightly more complicated, as some older Samsung TVs are losing their ability to stream Xbox cloud games.
Starting November 3, 2026, Samsung smart TVs launched in 2020 and earlier will lose access to Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming service, even if the Xbox app is available on that device. The cloud gaming platform will soon require Web Worker features introduced with the Chromium 70 web engine.
Because Samsung no longer releases major software updates for its 2020 and older TV models, these devices remain stuck on the Chromium 69 engine from 2018.
This limitation also affects older LG TVs released in 2020 and earlier, which are restricted to Chromium 68. In contrast, devices running Android TV or Google TV do not face this issue because their underlying Chromium engines can be updated independently of the core operating system.
If you rely on a 2020 or older Samsung TV for Xbox Cloud Gaming, the easiest workaround is to purchase a modern smart TV dongle or streaming box. Devices running recent versions of Android TV, Google TV, or Amazon Fire TV OS are excellent alternatives that will let you continue using the Xbox app.
