Do you remember last month when we said the Galaxy A56 would finally bring a selfie camera upgrade to the series? Well, we have more good news for fans of mid-range phones. The A56 is not the only one getting this treatment, and its to-be cheaper sibling, i.e., Galaxy A36, will also enjoy an upgraded camera. Seemingly.
So, here are the deets. Our colleagues at GalaxyClub have discovered that Samsung plans to fit the Galaxy A36 with a 12MP camera. And, yes, even though 12MP is a lower resolution than 13MP, this new sensor should perform better than the old one.
We're guessing better colors and improved performance in a variety of lighting conditions, for a start. However, we'll have to wait and see just how big a difference this sensor change actually makes.
Interestingly enough, the 12MP selfie camera employed by the Galaxy A36 doesn't appear to be the same as the 12MP front-facing camera on the Galaxy A56. Again, since we don't have a point of reference for either the A56 or A36's camera performance, we don't know how much the selfie experience will differ from one model to the other.
What we know, based on this leak, is that the two 12MP shooters are different. But no matter how the A36 and A56 compare, we expect this 12MP shooter to be an upgrade over the 13MP sensor used in previous A3x devices.
Our friends also say the Galaxy A36 has a 50MP primary camera. Details about the ultrawide and macro shooters remain unclear, but we're starting to see a pattern.
More details after the video
Last year, Samsung upgraded the primary wide cameras. The upcoming Galaxy A36 and A56 are now supposed to upgrade the selfie shooter.
The ultrawide and macro cameras might remain unchanged. However, if this trend continues, the next models after the Ax6 may replace these sensors, too. Samsung might be taking this upgrade plan one generation at a time, but time will tell.
As far as availability is concerned, nothing has been confirmed so far, but Samsung will most likely announce and release the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 around the same time in the spring of 2025.
