Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 next month. The latter is rumored to be the world's thinnest foldable phone. However, Honor and Vivo could spoil Samsung's party by launching similarly thin foldable devices but with much beefier batteries and faster charging. Now, it has been revealed that the Vivo X Fold 5 has an even better IP rating for dust and water resistance.
Currently, Samsung's foldable phones have the best dust and water resistance ratings in the industry. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition have an IP48 rating. However, Vivo's upcoming flagship foldable phone, the Vivo X Fold 5, has four IP ratings: IP5X, IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+. These ratings are explained below.
So, the Vivo X Fold 5 is protected against dust and water, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but its protection grade is better. While Samsung was the first in the world to bring dust and water resistance to foldable phones, it seems like Vivo has overtaken it.
Nothing has been revealed about the Galaxy Z Fold 7's IP rating just yet. But it would be great if it has an IP58 rating for better protection against dust and dirt.
The Vivo X Fold 5 reportedly has a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. This is far better than the Galaxy Z Fold 7's rumored 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The phone has Qi2 Ready certification, though, which means it works with cases that have built-in magnets.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 reportedly has a titanium backplate and is 4.2mm thin when unfolded. It is said to feature an 8-inch foldable screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen. The foldable phone also features the Snapdragon 8 Elite, 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB storage, stereo speakers, GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, UWB, NFC, Samsung Pay, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port.
