Samsung has always equipped its flagship smartphones’ displays with the strongest protection available in the market. That often comes from Corning and the South Korean tech giant is usually the first brand to adopt its newest offerings.
Take last year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra for example. It was the first device with the Corning Gorilla Armor, which wasn’t just the strongest protection available for mobile displays but also the first such product with anti-reflective properties, enhancing brightness and contrast. Well, it is no different with Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which the brand launched yesterday.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the first smartphone in the world to feature the Corning Gorilla Armor 2, which is “the industry’s first scratch-resistant, anti-reflective glass ceramic cover material for mobile devices.” Now, Samsung has given us some figures about its strength and durability, and going by those, the Galaxy S25 Ultra might withstand quite a lot of torture.
In a press release, Samsung says that in Corning’s lab tests, the “Gorilla Armor 2 survived drops of up to 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) on a surface replicating concrete.” Whereas, “Alternative glass ceramic materials failed when dropped from one meter.”
Watch our hands-on video of the Galaxy S25 Ultra below.
It claims that after the drop test, the Gorilla Armor 2 “maintained its exceptional scratch resistance, demonstrating over four times more scratch resistance than competitive lithium-aluminosilicate cover glasses with an anti-reflective coating.”
As for the anti-reflective properties, Samsung didn't say much but we are expecting the Gorilla Armor 2 to cut down reflections even further while offering wetter and deeper-looking blacks.
Corning Gorilla Glass’ Vice President and General Manager, David Velasquez, said “Samsung and Corning have a long history of collaborating to provide consumers with the most advanced and innovative technologies. With Gorilla Armor 2, we offer consumers an unparalleled user experience with the first durable, optically advanced glass ceramic cover material ever used on a Galaxy mobile device.”
