Samsung took a risk expanding the mainline Galaxy Z lineup with a third model this year, and it seems to be paying off. Today, Samsung announced that Galaxy Z foldable phone sales in Europe have increased significantly since last year.
The company says sales were driven by “exceptional demand” for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The numbers speak for themselves:
Higher demand for the latest foldables was also reflected by Google search trends across the Old Continent:
Incidentally, the second week of September is when Apple announced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo.
Although Samsung didn't mention its rival in today's announcement, it's impossible not to link the iPhone Duo's launch to the surge in online traffic related to the Fold 8 in Europe.
That trend might continue, especially now that Apple had to push back iPhone Duo shipment dates to the end of January due to a mismanaged launch. The iPhone Duo has raised awareness, and Samsung now has an opportunity to cash in on it. It knows it, too.
The holiday shopping season is just around the corner, but the iPhone Duo will miss it in many regions where Apple is understocked. Meanwhile, more and more people are becoming aware of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the unique qualities it has over the iPhone Duo.
If you are tempted to buy a foldable and join the hype by the end of 2026, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra in Europe start at €1,999 and €2,199 before discounts.
