The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is selling very well in the United States. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are finding customers at a rate well over and above last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Samsung has revealed today that combined sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 models are consistently tracking 30% over last year's model in the United States.
Samsung has seen a strong pre-order period in the US for this year's foldable phones. It revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra are consistently bringing in combined sales that are 30% above the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It further revealed that both Galaxy Z Fold 8 models now account for 80% of current Samsung foldable phone purchases.
While it may seem that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 isn't as hot, the clamshell model continues to do its job of lowering the barrier to entry very well. Samsung says that 30% of Galaxy Z Flip 8 buyers in the US are switching from other brands, with most of them being first-time foldable owners.
The company hopes that eventually those Flip owners will upgrade to a Fold, and there's real data behind this hope. Samsung says that more than three times as many Galaxy Z Flip owners are now upgrading to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra compared to last year's model.
This goes to show that Samsung's strategy is paying dividends. Buyers who are convinced about foldables pick up the more expensive Fold models right away.
Those who are switching for the first time make the safer bet of opting for a Galaxy Z Flip. Once they own it for a while, they feel confident enough in upgrading to a Galaxy Z Fold.
