Google recently revealed Android 16 and its new features at the Google I/O 2025 event. One of its new features is Live Updates, which shows ongoing activities on the lock screen, AOD screen, notifications section, and the status bar. The feature is coming to Samsung phones this year and Google even gave us a sneak peek at how it looks on One UI 8.0.
During a developer keynote at Google I/O 2025, Google employees showcased how Live Updates look on stock Android. They also announced that the Live Updates feature is coming to devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Moreover, they showcased how Live Updates will look on devices running Android 16 (One UI 8.0), such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
As you can see in the image above, Live Updates will appear in the Now Bar on Samsung phones. Since the Live Updates feature only works on devices running Android 16, the Galaxy S25 Ultra displayed in the image is clearly running One UI 8.0, which is based on Android 16.
Uber Eats, which is a food delivery app, displays the live status of the delivery. There is a progress bar with five segments, which are likely dedicated to each step of the process, starting from ordering food from a restaurant and ending with it getting delivered to your doorstep. We can also see three buttons—Call, Message, and Tip—at the bottom of the notification.
Google has announced that Live Updates currently work with food delivery, navigation, and ride hailing apps. However, more types of apps can be allowed in the future, depending on the use case. Live Updates are also coming to Galaxy Watches with a Wear OS update that will arrive in late 2026.
