In March, Google introduced AI Mode for Google Search on the web and in the Google app as an experimental feature via Labs. This feature uses Gemini to search for anything and provides more useful results than basic Google search. Unlike AI Overview, which shows a short AI-generated text summary above search results, AI Mode’s interface looks similar to chatting with an AI assistant.
At Google I/O 2025, Google announced that it is making AI Mode available for everyone in the USA. It means the feature is out of the testing stage (improved reliability and performance) and that you don’t have to activate it through the Labs section. Initially, it will be available to people in the USA and then to everyone around the world.
In Google Search, you will be able to find AI Mode at the top of the website, beside All, Images, Videos, and other tabs. It shows a text-input box with the Deep Search option and an enter button.
You can type your query, hit enter, and AI Mode will search the internet for it and provide you with an AI-generated result, which could contain, introduction, an in-depth explanation, bullet points, tables, graphs, results from Google Maps, links to other websites, and a conclusion.
For example, you can ask AI Mode to suggest hotels in the Maldives that are near the airport, provide you with a good view of the ocean, have a gym, and quick access to water sports, as well as suggest places to visit there.
The AI Mode will then search the internet and provide an AI-generated result suggesting you hotels, why you should choose them, what to look out for, best practices, and other such useful information, which is very neat.
