Samsung has been criticized a lot over the past few years for not making any major improvements to battery and charging technologies in its phones. However, the company seems to be adopting a new technology that could improve the battery capacity and solve an issue in its phones.
According to a report from TheElec, Samsung is planning to adopt a new battery technology for its future phones. However, it isn't the Silicon Carbon (SiC) technology that Chinese companies recently started using in their phones. Samsung will reportedly use the SUS (Steel Use Stainless) CAN battery technology, which reportedly not only increases the energy density (battery capacity) and charging speed, but also solves the battery swelling issue commonly found in Galaxy phones.
Higher battery capacity, faster charging speed, and a battery that does not swell after a few years are all the problems consumers want to see solved on Samsung phones. SUS CAN technology is already being used by Apple since the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While stainless steel isn't as effective as aluminium in heat dissipation, it is more robust and resistant to corrosion. A stainless steel case for the battery also makes it easier to replace the battery. That is an aspect brands have to think about, especially after the European Union's strict rules to improve repairability of mobile devices came into effect.
It isn't clear when Samsung plans to bring this new battery technology to Galaxy phones and tablets. Hopefully, it is adopted in the Galaxy S26, which is expected to be launched early next year. A previous report claimed the Galaxy S26 Ultra will have a 5,500mAh battery.
