A few years ago, Samsung started shifting from Samsung Messages to Google Messages for Galaxy smartphones. As a part of that, the app stopped supporting Rich Communication Services (RCS) with a few network carriers in the United States.

However, Samsung Messages has once again started supporting RCS with those network carriers, and that too using Google’s implementation of RCS, casting a shadow over Samsung’s intention to go all in on Google Messages.

According to 9To5Google and SammyGuru, Samsung Messages on the Galaxy S25 series smartphones running on T-Mobile and Verizon supports RCS. The pop-up that the app shows prompting you to turn on RCS reveals that it is using Google’s implementation of RCS.

This is great news for people who prefer Samsung Messages over other messaging apps, including Google Messages. However, it also suggests that Samsung has had a change of heart and it might once again start pushing Samsung Messages over Google Messages.

The latter isn’t a bad thing as people who don’t want Samsung Messages can always download Google Messages and set it as the default messaging app. For people who don’t want Samsung Messages on their phones at all, we hope that Samsung gives them the option to delete the app.
