Samsung's tablet portfolio shrunk down in 2024. The company released only four tablets in 2024, compared to seven a year prior. Furthermore, Samsung restructured its premium tablet lineup to include two instead of three models. Gone is the base Galaxy Tab S variant.
Needless to say, 2024 was an unusual year for Samsung tablets. However, new market research data suggests that Samsung's decisions may have been for the best.
In 2024, Samsung recorded a higher annual growth in global tablet shipments than Apple, according to data from Canalys.
Samsung shipped 27.7 million Galaxy tablets in 2024, up from 25.6 million in 2023. By shipments, Samsung was the second-largest tablet vendor after Apple, but its annual growth topped 8.2% versus Apple's 5.3%.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, right after Samsung released the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, the company shipped more tablets than it did in 2023.
Samsung recorded 7 million shipments in Q4 2024, up from 6.8 million a year before. Once again, Apple maintained the lead over the tablet market in Q4, but Samsung came in second with a considerable gap between it and the third-largest vendor, Lenovo.
Market watchers say that, all vendors combined, global tablet shipments in 2024 grew 9.2% compared to 2023. Q4 shipments also improved 5.6% year-on-year.
In total, the segment recorded 147.6 million shipments throughout 2024, and growth was recorded in all regions except North America.
In 2024, Samsung's tablet lineup consisted of the Galaxy Tab Active 5, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) refresh, and the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra.
