After launching its first mixed-reality headset later this year, Samsung is reportedly planning to launch its first smart glasses next year. They will compete with smart glasses from Apple and Meta, and they will not run Android, according to a new report.
According to a report (via @Jukanlosreve) from South Korean publication SEDaily, Samsung could launch its display-less smart glasses as early as the end of 2026. The glasses are reportedly similar to Meta's AI Glasses, featuring a camera, microphones, and speakers. They will likely be able to capture images and videos, answer your general questions using an AI assistant, and pair with your Galaxy phone.
Samsung is reportedly building its own product lineup, separate from its partnership with Google, to secure leadership position in the smart glasses segment in the next few years. The company reportedly believes that smart glasses will succeed smartphones as the next generation of devices that will travel along with the user. As they are always worn, people don't need to carry them in their pockets and take them out when they want to use the device.
With the arrival of AI, smart glasses have become a lot more useful. In the future, smart glasses will come with AR displays, which will make those devices even more helpful. However, Samsung's first smart glasses won't feature a display, but future versions will have them. Meta's next-generation smart glasses, called Orion, have an AR display, though, giving Meta an upper hand.

Samsung may launch its first smart glasses with its own software rather than relying on Google's Android platform. This is because the South Korean firm may have anticipated that it will have to compete with Google in the future, much like how its Galaxy phones and smartwatches currently compete with Google's Pixel devices.
Meta is currently the leader in the smart glasses segment. It has partnered with Oakley and Ray-Ban. Its smart glasses have a starting price of $299. Apple's first smart glasses are expected to launch next year, and like Samsung's smart glasses, they reportedly won't have a display. So, Apple and Samsung will compete head to head in 2026 in the smart glasses segment.
