Samsung is gradually expanding the use of artificial intelligence within the company to assist employees and increase productivity across teams. The company has reportedly been testing an AI coding assistant to provide a helping hand to its software development teams.
A beta version of this coding assistant is reportedly being tested by employees of Samsung's Device eXperience division, which includes the company's mobile, television, and home appliances businesses.
Reports out of South Korea indicate that Samsung has informed employees through an internal company update that it will supplement its software development teams with an AI-powered coding assistant called Cline amid its efforts to increase workplace efficiency.
Cline is currently in beta testing with some employees in the company's DX division and will be rolled out more broadly to the software development teams starting next month.
Cline is an open-source AI-powered coding assistant that helps software developers by editing, generating, and testing code. Developers can accomplish these tasks by providing Cline with natural language prompts, kind of like how you'd ask ChatGPT to create a diet plan for you.
Conventional coding assistants can generally handle only basic tasks. Cline is a more specialized tool as it can also assist in the more advanced stages of software development, and Samsung would hope that this leads to improved productivity across its software development teams.
AI tools are increasingly being used at Samsung, despite the earlier leak incident with ChatGPT. It only recently allowed employees to use ChatGPT again. Samsung has also developed Gauss, an internal AI solution, to assist employees with various tasks.
