The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a significant improvement over its predecessor. It’s incredibly thin and light, with a reduced display crease visibility. However, some users have reported an unusual issue. Some units aren't opening fully flat. Is it something should you be worried about it?
Some shoppers who used demo units of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 have claimed that the phone didn't open completely flat. An image of such a unit was posted on Reddit, and another user commented that they also noticed the issue in another unit at a Best Buy store in the USA. People said that demo units get handled pretty roughly at stores, but considering that the phone reached store shelves just last week, this shouldn't happen so fast.
Samsung says that it is perfectly normal for a Galaxy Z series phone with a Flex Hinge to stay open in a range from 178.5 degrees to 181.5 degrees. Previous discussions on Reddit say that if a phone is not folding open inside that range should be eligible for a replacement under warranty.
Not everyone has experienced the same issue, though. Some people claimed that the issue didn't exist on the device they used at retail stores. One of our Galaxy Z Fold 7 units doesn't open completely flat (180 degrees), but its angle isn't as pronounced as visible as in the image above. You can see it in our video below.
As of now, there is no need to get worried about this non-issue. There is a possibility that some demo units in stores are not up to Samsung's quality standards or they may have been abused. It is also possible that the phone in the image wasn't opened completely. Whatever the case, as of now, there isn't enough proof that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a design issue.
